Easy YouTube Channel Art Template for 2020 and beyond with Downloadable Templates
Are you looking for a YouTube channel art template for download or searching for YouTube Banner Sizes? Don’t worry, you are on the right page.
A few years ago, I created my first YouTube Channel and as a designer, designing the Channel art was one of the most exciting parts of it. YouTube has more than 1.5 billion users (second in social only to Facebook), and the average viewing session lasts almost 40 minutes to create a combined 500 million hours of video watched daily on the channel.
With more than a billion users and over a million hours of content consumed every day, YouTube is the second largest social media platform on the internet. Having a presence on YouTube is a must for most brands and professionals who are looking forward to building a following online. Part of building this following is branding which includes the YouTube Profile Picture and YouTube Banner.
We would look into the branding, profile picture sizes and Youtube Channel Banner sizes in this post. The objective would be to design an overall design the creates a good impression about your brand, make the channel memorable, and increase your follows.
The first time I created the Channel art, it was a trial and error method. After all these years, I have created or should I say set up more than 10 to 15 Channels for myself and my companies I have worked with.
Through this post, I would like to take you through the step by step process of designing your YouTube Channel art work. Before you start designing, you need to understand the elements involved in this design.
There are a lot of tools to create banners template for your channel including free image editors online.
I will start with my favorite tools for banner design which is Adobe Photoshop. Even if you are new to photoshop, the steps below here will help you in the process.
YouTube Channel Art Template Editing
So now that you have got your hands on the Blank YouTube Channel Art Template, you can open it with photoshop.
There is a small difference in how the channel art is displayed on different devices. The dimensions are different on mobile and desktop devices. Once you have the PSD file downloaded, you can save a new version of the template so that you do not make any changes or delete the file accidentally.
In the template file, you will find a few layers. The layer at the bottom is a guide layer. You can enable and disable the layer by clicking the display toggle option.
The second layer is the background later.
Lets me take you through the template step by step and what it consists of:
This layer group contains the guide and frame for a safe area. It is advisable to use this layer as a reference. You can disable and enable this group once you have an idea of the safe area.
This group contains a smart object which can be edited and replaced with a logo if you wish to do so. If you are not planning to include a logo or photo in the final design, you can just disable it like the Guides Group.
You can edit the text inside this group to replace it with your own text like your website, brand name, or even a tagline. If you are adding more text, I would recommend working with the font size so that it doesn’t go beyond the safe area.
This is a design layer with transparency applied. Since the layer is a smart object, you can replace it with the design you would like. Due to the transparency of the layer, the background color is important for the design.
This layer has multiple background colors and one layer with a gradient overlay applied. You can toggle on and off the layers using the visibility toggle to see how it looks on different colors. You can import your own background to this layer if you wish so.
The fact that you need to keep in mind is that the channel art banner is cropped on mobile devices. In the guide, you can notice that the markers for the visible area show you the area which will not be cropped on mobile devices.
Make sure that you are placing all-important content inside the visible area. The best practice would be to uniformly place the content. Depending on the type of business, you could use logos, artwork even just brand colors for your YouTube Channel Banner. In case you are designing it for a personal brand, it is a good idea to include your photo in the design. Just make sure that you do not place your photo inside the cropped section or outside the safe area.
Clicking this button will provide you with an option upload banner. There are many websites where you could download amazing banners background or abstract images. Some vector design download sites provide free background or design downloads which you could use in your banner designer.
If you are new to photoshop you can use this method it removes the background from the part of the image that you want to separate and place on the background.
You can also use Canva to design your Youtube Banner. The YouTube Banner Sizes can be set before designing it in Canva. You can use images or photos provided by Canva itself, in case you do not have your own banner content or design in mind. These templates are good as a starting point.
Coming back to the safe area of the banner, it is advisable to make the design stretch or fill the outer area which will make the banner look better on desktop devices. Make sure that even if these elements are cut off in mobile devices, it doesn’t make much difference.
Choosing your fonts and font colors for the banner is also important. If you have a set of fonts that you have decided for the brand and visual theme, then use them first.
Complimentary colors are another aspect of the design you should look into. You don’t want to end up using a dark background and a dark font color for your banner.
I have noticed that some YouTubers using their channel name on the banner itself. I think this a good idea views can remember the Channel or identify the channel easily.
