Cost of Transferring a domain to a new registrar in 2 minutes

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Transferring a domain between Registrars will cost you money and I will show you how much. Before that, for years I have been using Namecheap.com for registering my domains and I have been recommending it to everyone. Certain situations arise when you need to get a domain on other registrars like Godaddy, 1and1, etc when they have deals and offers on .com domain.

For the first year, all these registrars have good services at cheap price, for example, 1n1 offers $1/Month domain, Hosting and Business email which adds up to $3/month and just $36 a year. For just $40 you get a VPS hosting service that has amazing configuration 6 core CPU, 12gm ram and 240 GB SSD storage.

That been said, I still love Namecheap for the support they have provided and the glitch for dashboards and interfaces. I spent most of my time in there and trust me, it’s a nightmare to use crappy hosting interfaces and dashboards.

What is the process of transferring a Domain

You will have to pay for the domain registration charges at the new registrar even if you have just renewed your domain with the existing registrar. The best way to deal with it, if you don’t want to do it urgently for some reason, is to wait till it’s near the expiry before you initiate the transfer process. You will end up paying twice for a year’s domain subscription in otherwise.

How much does transferring a domain cost?

If you are transferring the domain to another user with the same registrar, it will be free. This usually is helpful when you are selling or buying a domain.  The price changes from registrar to registrar for renewal and privacy settings. It can range from $10 to $20 depending on the provider.

Note:
You might only transfer a domain after the first 60 days of registration or transfer. In case you have any questions regarding the transfer of the domain, do let me know and I might be able to help you with it.
